Wayanad, the green paradise, forms the border of Kerala’s greener region and is tucked away among the Western Ghats mountains. This place is tidy and unspoiled, charming and mesmerising, and rich in tradition. Located at a distance of 76 kilometres, this lush hill station is not far from Kozhikode’s seashores and is home to a variety of plantations, forests, and animals.

Hike & Boat

Trek up to the highest peak in Wayanad district; Mt. Chembra (6,900 ft.). Ferry atop a native bamboo raft to the protected Kuruva Island delta


Safari

Take a morning safari through Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary; the habitat of deer, boar, mongoose, jungle cats, bison, panther and elephant


Food & Music

Visit a tribal village near your UcL Stay for indigenous music/dance. Home cooked Kerala food that’s guaranteed to have you licking your fingers

Schedule

Day 1 – Welcome to the Jungle

  • Arrive at Pulpally, Wayanad District, Kerala by noon
  • Check in to your UcL Stay. Freshen up to a sumptuous lunch
  • Drive to the Kabini River and ferry across to Kuruvadweep atop the native bamboo rafts. Walk through the streams and cluster of little islands in a protected river delta. Click rare forms of flora and fauna, migratory birds in this uninhabited idyllic place
  • Reach the nearby village to catch a performance of tribal music/dance
  • Moonlight walk through the forest alongside a stream
  • Dinner is usually served on the front porch or under a canopy in the garden

Day 2 – All along the Watchtower

  • Early breakfast and 50 km ride to Chembra Peak Watchtower
  • Start trekking to the highest point in Wayanad; Chembra Peak at 2,100 m
  • Take a break at a heart-shaped lake on the way. Witness the beauty of the hills and valleys of Wayanad from the mountain top. Trek back down to starting point
  • *Lunch at a local eatery
  • On your way back, stop by at a reservoir to take in the sights
  • Relax/shower/change before Dinner at your UcL Stay
  • Campfire for you at night

Day 3 – Animals

  • Early morning (5:30 a.m.) drive to Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary; the habitat of deer, boar, mongoose, jungle cats, bison, panther and elephant
  • Breakfast at your UcL Stay
  • Trip ends
